This happens more often than you’d expect, and is a main reason why one cup of coffee is never enough. I started to search for more sugar alternatives to sweeten coffee because I didn’t want to give it up. But I also didn’t want the effects of the added sugar.

Too much sugar is simply not good. It’s not just the fatigue, but the fact that our body starts to crave it and it’s easy to become addicted.

It has been proven to cause fatigue, irritability, energy swings, and addiction. So is there a way to enjoy coffee and other drinks without sugar? Definitely.

HERE ARE THE 7 WAYS TO SWEETEN YOUR COFFEE WITHOUT SUGAR

1- SUGAR-FREE COFFEE CREAMER

This is one of the easiest ways to get some flavor in your coffee without sugar. Sugar-free coffee creamer is super convenient to use if you want to cleanse your palate from sugar completely.

These sugar-free creamers are mainly dairy-based but you can get dairy-free coffee creamers.

HERE’S HOW TO MAKE IT:

  1. Combine cream, dates, and vanilla in a saucepan and cook on medium heat for 15 minutes. Stir often.
  2. Transfer to a high-powered blender, and blend until the dates are fully incorporated into the mixture. If you have a conventional blender, blend on high for 2-3 minutes.
  3. Then using a metal sieve, a piece of cheesecloth, or even a colander fitted with a tea towel (or paper towel), strain the mixture to remove any date particles that may remain.

2- HONEY

Honey is a great option for those who are open to a different flavor profile in their coffee. It must be stated that honey is indeed a sweetener, but it is a healthier alternative to sugar.

It’s a great sweetener for teas and desserts as well. Honey contains nutrients, antioxidants, and it’s more recommended to people with diabetes.

3- MAPLE SYRUP

Like honey, maple syrup is a more natural and nutritious alternative to sugar. You can use this to sweeten everything from tea to pancakes.

Maple syrup has some health benefits like strengthening the immune system and providing valuable antioxidants.

4- STEVIA

If you want to go 100% sugar-free, this option is great but it can be misleading. Why? Because stevia can be up to 100 times sweeter than sugar.

Unlike sugar, though, it doesn’t affect your glycemic index or blood sugar. You only need a small amount to get your desired sweetness.

Stevia comes in 2 forms: stevia powder, and stevia drops.

5- ERYTHRITOL

This is another sugar-free sweetener that is very versatile and that will get you the same level of sweetness that you’re used to.

Erythritol is a sugar alcohol that has no effect on your blood sugar level, just like stevia. These two products are very popular in the low carb and keto community because of these benefits.

6- DATES

Sometimes when I find myself out of other sugar-free options, I stir a date or 2 into my tea or coffee. This doesn’t make it overly sweet, but it does give a nice flavor and feeling that you wouldn’t get from otherwise unsweetened tea/coffee.

Dates are full of nutrients as well. They help to give you a rapid boost of energy and help to control blood pressure.

7- MONK FRUIT SWEETENER

Monk fruit is an Asian fruit that has become popular in the west in recent years. This is the best natural sweetener that has the least noticeable aftertaste after you eat it.

It also doesn’t have any noticeable impact on blood sugar levels and it’s another favorite in the low carb community.

You can sweeten your coffee, tea, and other dishes without sugar by using any of the 7 options that are listed above. Going sugar-free does take some adjustment, but once you experiment with the flavors that you like, you’ll be enjoying the benefits of this lifestyle in no time. It also doesn’t have any noticeable impact on blood sugar levels and it’s another favorite in the low carb community.
